Nigerian singer Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has opened up about experiencing heartbreak after a lady he wanted a serious relationship with rejected his proposal.
Speaking during a livestream with streamer Okiki on Friday night, the 26-year-old singer said he approached the woman with the intention of building a long-term relationship, but she told him she was not ready to commit to one person.
According to Rema, the lady said she still wanted to enjoy her single life and was not ready to be taken “off the streets.”
“The song was inspired by a lady I wanted a serious relationship with, but she said she still wants to be on the streets,” he said.
Rema revealed that the experience inspired his song, ‘Oh No’, which he said was drawn from the emotions surrounding the rejection.
The singer also disclosed that he has been taking time to reflect on his life and reassess his journey, noting that fame came to him at a young age.
Rema said everything moved rapidly after he rose to prominence at 17, prompting him to slow down and take time to evaluate different aspects of his life.
